Voting opens tomorrow for the 2010 Farm Service Agency County Committee elections and producers are being encouraged to get involved by turning in their ballots before the December deadline.

All eligible farmers and ranchers can make a difference by getting involved and voting in this year’s county committee elections. County committee members provide input and make important decisions on the local administration of new disaster and conservation programs under the 2008 Farm Bill.

Nearly 7,900 county committee members provide a link between the agricultural community and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. They help deliver farm programs at the local level and make decisions on commodity price support loans and payments, conservation programs, emergency programs and payment eligibility, and other FSA programs.

Producers must participate or cooperate in an FSA program in order to vote. Ballots have been mailed to eligible voters and must be returned to the local FSA office by Dec. 6, 2010. Learn more.
