Earlier this month, José Otero-García, USDA Rural Development State Director for Puerto Rico held a kick-off campaign activity in the Puerto Rico State Office. The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) is the only authorized solicitation of Federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charitable organizations.
Sister Florencia Santos from “Hogar del Niño El Ave María” was invited to the opening ceremony. She is the director a shelter for abused children (newborn to 4 years old). They provide support services such as social workers, psychological, medical, educational, nutritional and recreational activities.
We also invited Mrs. Mónica Yoma, President of the Board of Director of “El Faro de los Animales” a no-kill animal shelter funded by private donations. They offer intensive adoption program for rescued dogs and cats and community education promoting sterilization, proper care, compassion and non-violence.
Both nonprofit organizations talked about their respective organizations and what they are doing for the community.
Participating in the CFC is a way for Federal employs to make a difference, because it supports and promotes philanthropy and provides the opportunity to improve the quality of our communities.
